Generate
Lorem Ipsum Placeholder Text Generator
Generate Lorem Ipsum placeholder text as paragraphs, sentences or words.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you paste is uploaded or stored.
What is lorem ipsum generator?
Lorem Ipsum is scrambled, pseudo-Latin filler text that designers and developers drop into a layout in place of real copy, so a mockup, template, or component can be reviewed for how it looks rather than what it says. Its nonsense meaning is the point — real sentences pull a reviewer's attention toward reading and correcting the words instead of judging the spacing, type size, and line length around them. This tool generates it as paragraphs, standalone sentences, or a raw word count, with an option to wrap the output in `<p>` tags so it can be pasted straight into HTML.
When to use it
- Filling a wireframe or design mockup with realistic-looking body text before real copy is written.
- Populating a CMS template or email template during development, to check how it handles multiple paragraphs of text.
- Stress-testing a component's text wrapping, truncation, or line-clamping with a long or short amount of filler content.
- Padding out a UI prototype so stakeholders review the layout rather than nitpick placeholder wording.
How to use this tool
- Choose what to generate — paragraphs, sentences, or a specific number of words.
- Set how many of that unit to generate.
- Turn off "Start with 'Lorem ipsum…'" if you don't want every generation to begin with the famous opening line.
- Turn on "HTML output" to wrap the result in `<p>` tags, ready to paste straight into a page.
- Copy the result, download it as a file, or copy a link that restores these exact settings.

Why placeholder text should be meaningless
Real, readable sentences pull a reviewer toward proofreading and rewording instead of judging layout, spacing, and typography — which is usually the actual job at the mockup stage. Lorem Ipsum’s Latin-shaped nonsense gives text the right shape, length, and rhythm of real copy (a mix of short and long words, natural sentence and paragraph lengths) without being readable enough to distract from that.
Checking how much placeholder text you actually generated
Design specs are often given as a word or character budget, not a paragraph count — the word and character count shown next to the generated text covers that directly, so hitting a specific budget doesn’t take switching units back and forth by trial and error.
Frequently asked questions
Is the text actually random each time?
No, deliberately not — it cycles through the classic Lorem Ipsum passage in a fixed order rather than shuffling it, so the exact same settings always produce the exact same output. That's what makes the "Copy link" button work: it restores the settings, and restoring the settings reproduces the identical text, not a different draft.
What does Lorem Ipsum actually say?
Nothing coherent. It descends from a scrambled passage of Cicero's "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (45 BC), with words reordered and some altered until the Latin no longer forms real sentences. That's the point: it reads as plausible body text at a glance without carrying any actual meaning to distract a reviewer.
What does "Start with Lorem ipsum…" actually change?
With it on, generated text always opens with the recognizable "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…" line people expect. With it off, generation starts partway through the same passage instead — useful if you're generating several separate blocks of filler for one layout and don't want every one of them opening identically.
Why would I want HTML output instead of plain text?
Plain text is easiest to paste into a design tool, a text editor, or anywhere formatting doesn't matter. HTML output wraps each paragraph in its own `<p>` tag, so it can be pasted directly into a template's markup and render as separate paragraphs immediately, without you adding the tags by hand.
Is there a limit to how much I can generate at once?
Yes — up to 50 paragraphs, 300 sentences, or 3,000 words per generation. That comfortably covers any layout or template mockup; a page needing more than that is usually better served by real content at that point.
